Can you help me?
I have spent over $10.000 attempting to obtain a Pensionado visa in the last 2.5 years of living here in Panama and I STILL DON’T HAVE ONE.
I have gone thru three lawyers, two FBI background checks, and a Panamanian background check. I am now told by a fourth lawyer that I owe another $500.00 fine due to a prior attorney not notifying me or following through with my Pensionado process. The country of Panama is charging me $50.00/month for an open process concerning my application, and I’ve been advised that if I don’t pay the fine I will now not be able to leave Panama and I have to start the entire process over again from the beginning costing me an additional $2000.00.
I love living here in Boquete with my little handicapped squirrel, Doobee, that I rescued, sharing her and her picture with the children of Boquete; seeing the children’s smiles and fascination means the world to me.
Not only have I brought joy to the children of Boquete, but as a disabled Vietnam vet with a Purple Heart, I have helped many vets and seniors relocate to Boquete without any charge whatsoever! Also, while living in Bocas, I have helped many of the indigenous people create opportunities to make a living in several ways. I had to leave Bocas after being severely attacked, requiring intensive brain surgery and being transported to the Veterans Hospital in Miami.
I came to Boquete because I love the people, climate, and beauty. Truthfully I planned to live the rest of my days here and invest in this beautiful region. I cannot afford another $2500.00 without any real assurance that I will be treated fairly, since I have lived through a nightmare already for the last two and a half years, being told that I will now be held here unless I pay another fine and start the Pensionado process all over again!
I do not want to leave Boquete or Panama because I know I have a lot more to contribute to the people here, but if this Pensionado situation can’t be resolved I will be forced to leave this country.
